PRINCIPAL PATENT ATTORNEY

I’m thrilled to be at RnB IP, where my interests are primarily in the information technology and communications field.

Harnessing my background in computer science, mathematics, physics and chemistry allows me to help clients with the prosecution of patents in a wide range of technologies, from bioinformatics and cryptography through to financial transactions and software.  My experience also includes patent oppositions before the Australian Patent Office and providing strategic advice on freedom-to-operate, infringement and licensing matters.

Prior to joining the IP profession, I was an analyst/programmer with the Department of Defence, and then a Systems Integration Technologist with Wang Laboratories.  My appreciation of the effort required to develop and commercialise inventions in the IT field inspired my move into IP.

I started at the Australian Patent Office in 1989, where I progressed from Examiner of Patents through to Section Head, Hearing Officer and eventually, Deputy Commissioner of Patents.  I’m proud to bring my extensive experience of the inner workings of IP Australia to our clients, particularly in the area of oppositions, re‑examinations and patent term extensions.

A lateral move to Pizzeys Patent Attorneys occurred in 2007, where I worked as a patent attorney and then Principal until 2020.  I then joined RnB IP in 2021, where I focus on all areas of patent searching, prosecution, opposition and enforcement, both in Australia and New Zealand.

Outside of work, I enjoy fast motorbikes, fast cars and being the joyous custodian of my nascent garden.
